About Darlene Jaeger
I started drawing at an early age. Created and designed clothes for my paper-dolls. Won the honor in elementary school to design the cover of our annual May day festival program and in junior high received a scholarship to go to summer classed at the renowned Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles.Took as many art classes in high school as possible. Lost my self-esteem along the way and instead of taking commercial art at Los Angles Trade Tech I took Merchandise display and sign painting.
Art took a back seat for many years. Married twice. In the process had raised four wonderful children, plus two step- children. My second husband’s job moved us around a lot. We lived up and down the coast of California. Plus, a seven year visit (I like to say) in the mid west, Iowa. Before moving up to the Sierra Foothills....were able to travel extensively.
After just living here for over a year my husband of 39 years passed away in December of 2012. We were planning on entering the Art Trails in 2013 with our jewelry we designed and made together.
I wasn’t ready to get back into jewelry so soon. I decided to take an oil painting class while staying with my daughter up in Santa Cruz. Boy did that ignite the fuse again. Then a plein air workshop in oils at the Esalen Institute. That did it!
After decided to stay here in Coarsegold I starting taking pastel workshops and classes and found that pastels are the medium I wanted to stay with. I joined the YWA and the ACA and have entered some shows in 2015. To my delight I have won some awards at the Shades of Green show and the YWA Tri-Country show.
